WE ARE SUPER EXCITED AND CELEBRATING!
We are pleased to announce our first publication, RISE UP! POEMS OF PROTEST, POEMS OF PRAISE. This book is already receiving critical praise, including recognition from Jaki Shelton Green, N.C. Poet Laureate, and Suzanne Underwood Rhodes, Poet Laureate for the state of Arkansas. Author Mari Fitz-Wynn' s debut as a Poet has been a long time coming, and her book RISE UP! POEMS OF PROTEST, POEMS OF PRAISE brings all her writing ability to bear. Coupled with the poetry of her grandfather, Mari has created a work that unites deep wisdom, tragedy, and rejoicing in a way that leaves readers both haunted and contemplative long after the last page.

RISE UP! POEMS OF PROTEST, POEMS OF PRAISE

RISE UP! is a collection of powerful poetic imagery braided together from the poems of a grandfather born to parents who were slaves and the poetry of his granddaughter. As one voice, each poem reflects the rich legacy of this African American family. Their writing creates a connection to people who, in their Christian walks have been summoned to give more than a nod to the injustices of the past, but urged to acknowledge, and recognize their responsibility to help solve issues of social injustice boldly through Christ’s love.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green writes:
“These poems are emblematic of the reality that many things that cause strife and sorrow are also the things that cause an uprising in the spirit. The pages of RISE UP! POEMS OF PROTEST, POEMS OF PRAISE is a metaphorical offering of a wellspring of solidarity that our world needs. These pages help us drink fully of the possibilities of laughter knowing that weeping dehydrates the body; reminding us that we are the water bearers of hope.”

The poems in RISE UP! POEMS OF PROTEST, POEMS OF PRAISE speak wisely to our time and ask us to attend with eyes and hearts wide open, to hear two voices from two generations plead for justice, truth, faith, and beauty.
Mari Fitz-Wynn gave us a wonderful gift by selecting her grandfather’s poems from his three published volumes and matching them with her own work. I can imagine him rising up to applaud this treasure of a book.
-Suzanne Underwood Rhodes, Poet Laureate of Arkansas and author of Flying Yellow

This small and very important volume is a tome of wise admonishment and loving concern... These poems collectively woo the heart to aspire higher, the mind to go deeper, the soul to be transparent and confess, while encouraging strength to persevere in loving our neighbors as ourselves. - R.Wood

Deep calls to deep between Andrew Fitz and his granddaughter, Mari Fitz Wynn. Their poems echo and magnify one another as mighty lions roaring to each other in the night. This rich treasury captures the call for justice heard from Moses, Joshua's courage to act, and King David's craft of connecting words to the cries of the soul. -A.C.

What a treasure! I'm not sure I could pick out just one as a favorite. I'm so glad you did this project, even though I know it took many hours to do it all. "Palettes of color...open and close the dusk and dawn..." What a gorgeous way of saying that and what a beautiful picture your words paint. - D. McClintock
